City-Wide Open Studios Events BAS sponsors these semi-annual events that open studios of local artists to the general public. History On Saturday, June 9, 2007, hundreds of art goers swarmed the streets of Beacon for the Beacon Art Salon's first "City-Wide Beacon Open Studios" event. This event was held in conjunction with the "Open Doors" at Beacon Studios (formerly Bulldog Studios) and was kicked off by the unveiling of the Howland Public Library Mural by artist Rick Price. A wonderful crowd of Beaconites gathered around to see the placing of the vibrant mural on the exterior wall of the Howland Public Library. Twenty-five on the spot volunteers huddled around the mural to help hoist it onto the steel wall brackets. It was a sight to be seen. Afterwards, Rick Price emotionally thanked all the wonderful supporters of the project and said "this isn't my mural, it's yours, it's our mural" as he pointed into the crowd. Stacey Ward Kelly, Founder and President of the Beacon Art Salon, said, "It was wonderful to have such a successful first event and join with Beacon Studios to offer a wide range of art viewing opportunities. We will surely do this again and get even more of the artists in Beacon to participate. Collaboration, inclusion and community is the primary focus of the Beacon Art Salon so I'm overjoyed to see an event bringing the artists of Beacon together for the benefit of each other and the community." After the unveiling, the public was invited to visit the participating artists studios listed on the map. Over three hundred visitors attended the "Open Doors" at the Beacon Studios and many continued to follow the map route to other artists home-studios around the city. |
